Kitchen Inspiration

When we moved into our house 16 months ago the kitchen extension was already completed and we loved it from the first time we viewed the house. However not everything was exactly to our taste. I knew with a few updates we could get it looking a lot more colourful and characterful. A bit less bland and cream looking.

I have done a few bits, including updating my table and chairs and adding colourful prints but we knew it still needed more. We are currently working on painting, tiling and adding more colour. Here are some kitchens that have inspired me:

I saw this kitchen in Home Style magazine (Aug/Sep 2015) and just loved it. As most of my readers know I like colour and and this kitchen had lots of it, I love how homely it looks. I like the mix of wood and white and the mismatched, painted chairs.

I like having things on display and storing food in jars, this open shelf looks great with the coloured flower wallpaper.

Tiles can make such a difference and I like the use of different types here. The yellow shelving adds a great pop of colour.

Lighting is another great way to add colour. I like the selection of cushions and prints in this dining area adding so much character.

Marble, wood, butler sink and vintage mirror! Such a perfect combination of materials and I think the mirror above a sink is a great idea if you don't have a window.

So much vintage charm in this kitchen and those tiles with the orange units look great.

Now we are really upping the colour game here. I just love it. I really like the use of prints and signs in kitchens. Such an easy way to make it individual to you and add lots of colour.

Of course the easiest way to add colour to your kitchen is in the unit doors themselves. I like the wall transfer in this kitchen too. Another really easy way to liven any kitchen.

So many inspiring homes, they make me want to pick up a paintbrush immediately. Have you got a colourful kitchen to share?

  1. We recently had a kitchen/diner refurb that was excellently completed by builders in Southsea. The project took 6 weeks and finally after all the dust has settled we can begin to decorate. We have chosen a Farrow & Ball colour called'string' as the main colour with 'Sudbury yellow' as a bold contrast. See the link Inspiration
